Yard Renovation Update

the slow progression of our back 'yard' into an actual place where you can spend time (other than killing poison ivy) has not moved forward very much. in fact, it hasn't improved at all : (

i did warn that it would be a very slow process, but even i didn't anticipate it taking this long to get something started back there.

our first goal is to rebuild the back fence that borders the home of three pit bulls. this is necessary to even feel safe in our own yard. hopefully the new fence will also serve as somewhat of a barrier to the smell of those poor dogs' home.

second on the remodel agenda is building a patio/gazebo of some sort. of course i can visualize how it should look, but turning that image into reality is a whole other story. and let's not forget that hurricane season is creeping up on us (or has it already officially began?). ahhhh! in case you didn't get to witness what happened last year to our poor little yard, i've posted some pics of the disaster we came home to after that bastard, Gustav, visited. (see below)

now, after we've completed goals 1 and 2, we'll be home free and any other improvements we want to make should be fairly easy (fingers crossed). oh, if anyone would like to lend their fence-building expertise to help us one afternoon (or any boyfriends or husbands), we'd really appreciate it!! we will feed you and pay you for your generosity (in compliments, of course).

wish us luck!

Pretty Orange Roses

i've been looking at a lot of wedding websites lately for inspiration (for a little business venture my friend Emily and i are planning). and i really like when these blogs/websites post photo 'pages' of a particular wedding or theme. so, since our 1 year wedding anniversary is next month, i thought i'd put together some shots of our special night (aww).

now, if i can only stop being a pro at procrastinating and print those damn things! yes, i know, it's quite ridiculous that i haven't printed all of our photos yet. i really have no excuse, too.

Beer, sir?

last year, Matt made a beer for Festival that we so cleverly named Festival InternationALE (thank you, thank you). It proved to be a crowd pleaser – thanks to Matt's brewing talent and the supply of fresh orange slices that went with it – and he is making more for this year's festival celebration. I did a sort of poster thingy for it [see above] that we attached to our ice chest with safety pins (and he wasn't even living in the ghetto anymore). needless to say, it got rained on and was a soggy mess by the end of the afternoon. So, for this year's 'poster', I'm thinking of just changing up the colors, and date obviously, and maybe laminating it or printing it on some better paper. Not sure. Suggestions??

Hella Good News

ok, big news. NO DOUBT WILL BE ON TOUR THIS YEAR!!!
the dates haven't been released yet, but i'm really hoping for a show nearby. they're touring w/ Paramore (not too familiar w/ this band. i know the singer's a girl, though). i'm already developing a plan to donate plasma for ticket money (since funds are running a lil short lately). if anyone would like to join me, we could make a weekly fun day out of it. i've driven by that place a few times with intentions to stop, but then i see what kinds of people are standing outside, and frankly i'm scared to go it alone. anywho, if this plan doesn't work out, i saw on Craigslist that Graham is hiring shot girls...
now, back to the big news. i was lucky enough to see ND play Voodoo Fest several years ago (2002?). even though i literally could not move (at one point, the crowd was so tight that i raised both feet off the ground at the same time and was held up by the people around me!) and i lost my flip flops (bad idea) in the muddy ground below me, it was an awesome show!! good times. good times. i sometimes wonder if my shoes are still buried in City Park!
also, i saw my friend Gwen in Houston a few years ago (with my real friends/concert goers, Sarah and Ashley) when her 1st solo album was out. that show was amazing. the costumes were just so cool! i secretly wanted to be one of her Harajuku girls, but i think i'd look a little out of place on many levels: 1. i'm not Asian / 2. i'd look like a freaking giant next to any of those short gals / 3. i lack in the dance skills department
anywho, i just have to see ND on tour this year. and they're playing a bunch of their old stuff. Gwen thought this tour might help to inspire their new album, so i think they'll be super pumped to play songs that everyone knows. (she told me this last time we chatted, btw)
i'll share more info. once they announce dates/shows. YAY!!! later gators

February 05, 2009

i know we're only in the beginning of February, but i'm already getting excited for Festival International 2009!! for those of you who don't know, this year's festival will be from April 22-26. above is this year's pin and poster design (obviously). Kate Ferry is the poster artist. she's described as: ‘A local artist with a global perspective’. very cool!
more Festival posts to come as the celebration approaches!

hello blogger world!

ok, so i have been wanting to create a blog and i've finally done it! now, what do i post? ahhh!

i envision my blog as being sort of a hodgepodge of posts on different things — art, home décor, food (!), music, movies and random thoughts. basically, things that interest me. soooo, i say HELLO blogger world. i'm here. now, i'm not promising frequent updates, since i kinda have a problem with starting projects/ideas and moving on to something new before finishing the first. this blog will hopefully help me to change that. but i'm just sayin', no promises!

also, i plan to customize my blog a little more. another mission i'm on (besides the starting things and not finishing them issue) is to visually express my creativity more. i purchased a sketch book and pen and hope to concoct a little something for my blog's header.

stay tuned...
